We had another cold winter day today but thankfully the sun was out in full which helped to make the -31 wind chill a little less painful. Derek and I took the snowshoes and went for a walk to the woods today. We hadn't been back since before Christmas so it was a nice change of scenery. We noticed a few rabbit and squirrel tracks and heard a few different bird calls.
It was a beautiful day on the farm, just a little cold!!!

Looking Back
I was searching through my garden pictures the other day and couldn't believe how green and alive everything looked. I thought I would share a few summer pictures to remind us all of the joys of spring and the warmth of the summer sun. I hope you enjoy!!

Seed Selection
The 2008 growing season is fast approaching and the yearly hunt for new and exciting varieties is on. I generally order from three main seed companies, Veseys, Johnny's and William Dam. This year I am ordering several new tomato varieties, sweet potato slips, Jerusalem artichokes and horseradish from Mapple Farm in New Brunswick. We grew a few sweet potatoes last year and they turned out quite good. With all the new and exciting varieties that the catalogs promote it is hard to decide which to purchase. We usually choose ones that we know have worked for us in the past and then try a few new ones just for fun.
This past week the warm weather set upon us and almost all of our snow had vanished. The weather reports are saying more snow is on the way which will keep the fields covered. It was nice to have a break from the waist high snow but the muddy driveway was starting to get messy

MORE SNOW
We are getting hammered with yet another winter storm. No work today because they weren't even plowing the side roads in the morning. The weather didn't seem to bad early on so Derek and I went snowshoeing toward the back of the farm. The snow was quite deep so we didn't end up going very far. This picture is from the back of the first field looking at our snowshoe tracks.
Happy New Year
Another Storm!!! New Years Eve packed another punch here at the farm with more winter weather. Thankfully New Years Day was beautiful and all farm creatures were enjoying the beautiful sunshine.
